Technicolor Ends here
GRIFFIN GOODMAN
January 17 – February 8, 2025
Reception: Friday, January 17, 2025, 5:00 - 8:00 pm
Oopsy Daisy: Technicolor Ends Here marks a significant milestone for Griffin Goodman, serving as his first institutional exhibition and taking place at the Crossley Gallery at Ringling College of Art and Design, his alma mater. This show reflects Goodman’s long-standing exploration of childlike wonder and nostalgia.
The title, Technicolor Ends Here, references the 1948 animated cartoon Lucky Ducky, in which characters transition between color and black-and-white while breaking the fourth wall—a concept Goodman mirrors in his work.
At the heart of the exhibition is Goodman’s magnum opus: an 18-foot landscape that offers an intimate glimpse into his life. For the first time, he breaks his own fourth wall, shifting between vibrant color and monochrome to create a technicolor retrospective of his journey as an artist. What sets this exhibition apart is Goodman’s remarkable restraint with color. The arches in his compositions evoke the symbolism of art as a form of religion, with the gallery space transformed into a sanctuary—a window into his life. Themes of childhood, college years, and the interplay between black-and-white and color run throughout, presenting life itself in technicolor. Many of the works appear deliberately underdeveloped or overdeveloped, reflecting the artist’s own self-examination. Goodman has long described his style as “Warhol meets Where’s Waldo,” and his prolific output is beginning to mimic Warhol’s, with a massive body of work produced in a relatively short time.
Recently named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 for Art and Style 2025 alongside luminaries like Gigi Hadid, Chappell Roan, and Shaboozey, Goodman continues to establish himself as a force in contemporary art.
